Our Linen Flat Tape Featured in NHK’s “Sutekini Handmade”
We’re happy to share that our Linen Flat Tape is featured in the October issue of NHK’s Sutekini Handmade, a popular Japanese magazine dedicated to crafts and handmade projects. ✨
The material was selected by knitting designer Kazuko Murabayashi, whom we’ve known for more than 10 years.
Ms. Murabayashi has always taken an interest in our ribbons and tapes, and whenever we exhibit at the Japan Hobby Show, she makes a point of stopping by our booth.
A connection that began at an overseas trade show
Our connection with Ms. Murabayashi goes back to the days when Kawasaki Ribbon exhibited at trade shows in France, Germany, the United States, and other countries.
At overseas shows, our French staff had met her several times and would excitedly tell us,
“A famous Japanese knitting designer is here!”
Later, when we finally met in person at a trade show in Japan, the first thing she said was:
“So, you exhibit in Japan, too!”
Well… we are a Japanese company, after all! 😊
That little exchange marked the beginning of a relationship that has now lasted for more than 10 years.
Discovering new possibilities in a material
Over the years, Ms. Murabayashi has traveled to trade shows around the world and explored countless materials with her own eyes.
The Linen Flat Tape she selected for this project was not originally designed for knitting.
But she found a new way to use it—through crochet.
That ability to look at a material and discover a completely different possibility is something we truly admire about her.
For us as a ribbon and textile manufacturer, it was also a wonderful reminder that there can be so many ways to enjoy and use a material beyond its original purpose.
A simple and elegant piece that highlights the beauty of linen
The October issue of Sutekini Handmade features a simple, sophisticated piece that beautifully brings out the natural texture of linen.
Clear photographs and easy-to-follow diagrams guide readers through the process, making it a project you’ll want to try for yourself.
Some people around us have already picked up the magazine and told us,
“I’m going to make it!”
It’s especially meaningful for us to see a connection that began more than 10 years ago take shape in this way.
And we’re very happy that our linen series, which we have continued to make for many years, has found a new expression through Ms. Murabayashi’s creative work.
Thank you so much, Kazuko, for choosing our Linen Flat Tape and showing us a beautiful new way to use it. ✨
